NUNEVIT Eye Center’s Cataract Surgery

What are cataracts?

The transparent crystalline lens which lies behind the iris and the pupil, works much like a camera lens by focusing light onto the retina and adjusting the focus for clear vision both up close and far away. When the proteins in that lens begin to clump together, it gradually becomes cloudy which is what we call cataracts. Cataracts are usually age related, but are sometimes the result of trauma or UV exposure, eye inflammation, or diabetes. The type of cataract you have influences the characteristics of your symptoms. Initially, you may notice that your vision is a little blurred, that lights seem too bright, or you may experience light glaring when you are driving at night. Some types of cataracts can even bring about a temporary improvement in your near vision.

At our renowned NUNEVIT Retina Center, cataract surgery is performed by highly qualified and experienced surgeons with 15 to 20 years of experience who perform in depth pre and post-operative examinations and provide ongoing eye-health care.

How are cataracts treated?

If you have just begun to experience cataract symptoms, or if you do not want to have an operation right now, eye drops may offer a solution to slow the progression of the disease. However, the best known treatment for advanced cataracts is surgery to remove your clouded lens and replace it with a clear, plastic intraocular lens (IOL).

Cataract progression varies from person to person, and the best time for surgery really depends on your level of vision, age, eye condition, occupation, and lifestyle.

Optimal surgical time also depends on if you have glaucoma or retinal disease alongside your cataract disease, or if you want to resolve cataracts and presbyopia at the same time. Delaying surgery may increase your risk of complications, so it a good idea to come in to talk with our surgeons to decide the best time for your surgery.

In NUNEVIT Eye Center, cataract treatment is personalized; we carefully select an intraocular lens which is suitable for each individual.

Basic Cataract Surgery: A clean intraocular lens is inserted

A monofocal intraocular lens lets you see the far distance comfortably. However, you will still need glasses for close up vision.

Representative Monofocal Intraocular Lens

Acrysof IQ

This lens is suitable for cases where wave-front correction is required due to high corneal spherical aberration with aspheric lens.

AcrySof Toric

This technique uses an intraocular lens to correct both astigmatism and cataracts with one procedure. According to the US FDA's clinical results, 97% of patients reported that they could see long distances without glasses after this kind of surgery.

Akreos MI60

The aspheric lens is stabilised with four supporting structures.

Quadrimax

After removing the natural clouded crystalline lens, an implanted intraocular lens corrects refractive error and visual acuity. It is an aspheric lens which consists of an optical part and a supporting part and it is inserted into the back of your eyeball.

Precizon Toric

Transitional Conic Toric Radius lens is a patented astigmatism correcting intraocular device which extends depth of vision and visual acuity, and keeps the toric surface in alignment with astigmatism even if it is slightly misaligned.

(Patent: Transitional Conic Toric Radius)

Multifocal Intraocular Lens Cataract Surgery

Correcting Presbyopia Surgery

Multifocal Intraocular Lens Cataract Surgery is a great option for people with both presbyopia and cataracts. It will enable good close range vision well as treating cataracts.
